Yesterday we had to say our goodbyes to our sweet, lovable Bentley. There are no words to express the heaviness and emptiness in my heart. Cancer took him way too soon 💔 He truly was the best dog. He never left my side; he was my shadow, my buddy. He smiled like no dog I’ve ever seen, he had an adorable shimmy shake that he’d do whenever he was happy, and his love for both Chloe and Minx was the sweetest. I wish we had more time…I’ll forever love and miss you Bentley ♥️ Fly high sweet boy.

Almost 2 years ago we took our golden retriever, Bentley, to MedVet to have a mass removed and got the horrible news his cancer was incurable and it had spread throughout his body. Two days ago we found ourselves faced with similar circumstances. Our sweet Aussie, Minx, has a mass too. We were hopeful it was benign or could be surgically removed. As fate would have it, hers has metastasized too. The oncologist told me she has 1-2 months to live if we don’t do anything other than make her comfortable. We made the decision to start chemotherapy as long as it doesn’t impact her quality of life. It’s called CHOP chemotherapy and it alternates between giving chemo pills at home one week and then taking her to MedVet every other week for intravenous chemo for a total of 16 weeks. The kicker is herding dogs such as Aussies are predisposed to a gene mutation called MDR1 which makes them highly sensitive to certain drugs, such as chemo, and can result in death. Minx has been tested for this mutation, but we are still awaiting the results. If you’re the praying type, please pray for my sweet girl. This has all been such a shock and we are devastated at the thought of losing her.
